Thing #7

This is Rasmus #6 by Lars Odemark

This is a beautiful picture of a scottie dog. Since my husband is half Scottish, I decided to collect scottie dog items. No we don't have a real scottie dog. They cost $400 for a PUPPY. I'm still in college. No money for that. Maybe one day we'll find someone who wants to give away a scottie dog.

I can see using this website often to find pictures for presentations. I also understand more about giving credit to who the photographer is. I have never used a photo hosting service. But I can see the value of it. I would have concerns about some of my photos being public. So being able to make some of them private would be a must in order for me to post photos with any service.

Thing #9

http://www.happyfacegenerator.com/

Playing with this is soooo much fun. I've made several of these comics with saying to make a reward poster for my students. They have to read 3 READ 180 books per quarter (9 wks) and receive a game day. I can't wait to put it together.

I can see great potential for all aspects of life.

Thing #8

This is just part of my name. I don't know where the rest of it is. That was fun.

Well, here they are. I hope you can tell what they are.
It is my own photo taken in my classroom. I love puzzles, so I think that is creative. Unfortunately, the cost is quite prohibitive. I thought the beaded effect was interesting.

I'm not sure how mashups could be used in the classroom. But if I pass out the website to my fellow teachers, maybe they would assist with their creativity.

Thing #6

The site I choose is www.lulu.com. I liked the idea of being able to publish a variety of media for free. This can be used for the classroom in a plethora of ways: Social Studies - travel brochure, Science - ecology pamphlet, Language - comic books, Reading - paperback or hardback stories. This can also be a possible fundraiser for an organization - sell cookbooks. Then, of course there is the yearbook. This might be a great way to order just the number of books you need and included events from close to the last of the year. It also has the possibility of parents to go online to purchase their child's project. I liked the feature that gave you the options for how to bind the books.

Thing #5

To quote Steve Hargadon, "To Deal with Information Overload is to Produce More Information." This seems to be a conflicting statement, but the idea is to get the person to become involved in the learning process by participating. When you work with a new project, the more you search, play, use, or dissect the project, the more you learn. I was very interested in the article, Web 2.0 Is the Future of Education. He mentions 10 trends which he attributes to John Seely Brown and his lectures. I thought the new word "pro-sumer", a combination of producer and consumer is extremly accurate.

The other article is Minds on Fire: Open Education, the Long Tail, and Learning 2.0. I think the biggest impact of this article is the changing of the phrase "I think. Therefore, I am." to "We participate. Therefore we are." He gives several examples how the "flat earth" is benefitting many around the world who would never get an opportunity to become educated. This article could be reread several times a week and still supply new ideas.

Thing #4

From what I read I could tell that a person can get to know someone from their blog as long as the blogger is giving truthful information.

One of the readings compared the blogging era to the wild west, the law was what was made at that time. Blogging does not have a list of rules that guide a person blogging. For new people just starting to blog, it is an uncertain adventure.

I thought it interesting that the debate on replying to every comment or not.

I commented on the following classmates' blogs:
Crystal's Blog:
Thing #2 - I liked where she put her avatar. I asked her how I could put on my blog
without it being a post.

Jennifer's Blog:
Thing #9 - She had a problem with importing a picture. I aksed her if she had figured it
out.

Danielle's Blog:
Thing #5 - I noticed on the blog Danielle's wedding was last Saturday. So I congratulated
her and wished her a blessed life.

A Shepherd's Journey:
Thing #5 - I had to agree with Elizabeth. I also had never heard of Web 2.0. But am
grateful to this class, and other graduate classes in my program that have
opened up a who new world of resources to use in my teaching career.

Bledsoe's Blog:
Thing #2 - I agreed with her that all this new technology is a little overwhelming. But I
am getting more comfortable with it each day I use it.

Thing #3

Registering my blog didn't seem to be a big deal. I just hope I haven't registered more than once. :-) I'm excited about the possibilities for future learning.

Thing #2

Well, I've written my first (actually second) post. Boy, this was harder than I thought. I still think I don't have the avator in the correct place. So I still haven't found the correct way to post it. After looking at a couple of other blogs, it leads me to believe you have to play with this to discover all the neat things a blog can offer.

Thing #1

After listening to the tutorial, I was struck to the very being of my core how much I need to change my learning process. My weakest habit is not having confidence in myself. I compare myself to other great teachers and wonder how much am I failing to give to my students. Some teachers have so much energy.

But my greatest habit is wanting to help others. This would include other teachers, as well as my own students. I want students to know that there is hope even in the midst of all the frustration they are experiencing.

I will definitely keep this list visible for me to work on the changes to make me a better learner.
