The site called Learning 2.0 - 23 Things for Teachers was created from Stephen Abram's 43 Things.

Although our Librarian has discussed fair use many times at the beginning of each school year, I found the video quite informative. I know that getting permission is very important. It is not that difficult for certain items. I created a 20th wedding anniversary CD and needed to use the song that was song. Because I did not have the singer's rendition, I needed the original song. So I contacted the studio. Once they found out it was not for commerical use and only going to be on 1 CD, they gave permission.

It is easy for some teachers to justify their copies. But doing what is right is right.

The above is the podcast I listened to. I love humor, especially the Brooklyn Sense of Humor. I'm married to one.

I felt the Educational Podcast Directory would be the most beneficial. After looking at the other lists, I felt I had to be careful what I opened.

I would love to create a podcast.

I'm not sure if I would subscribe yet. Maybe down the road.

I joined TeacherPop. I was told I had to wait until the administration approved my entry. I am excited about using the blog on this site. I'm hoping to find other READ 180 teachers.

Wow! I've heard so much about My Space and then Facebook came along. I couldn't believe it when I received two requests on my email to join Facebook so I could see my friends' photos. So I was able to kill three birds with one Facebook page! I enjoyed signing up and filling out my profile. Then I went through several lists to add friends and family members to my page. I'm really grateful for this assignment.

I feel educators need to know the good and bad about social networking. Then they can watch for signs from their students and try to head off disasters. On the other hand, it is a good way to bridge generation gaps. When younger people see that you are willing to learn "their" technology, they are willing to open up to you more.

What I liked about Facebook is:
the ability to IM
find people you've lost track of
safety features

My Space does not have the safety features that Facebook has.

Some classrooms could use these tools, though precaution would have to be exercised.

Thing #17

I really enjoyed finding out more information about how to organize sites. One of these booklets will make a wonderful addition to my personal computer. I can see great potential for educational purposes. For Social Studies, finding interactive sites for the different subjects being taught can be time consuming. With booklets, you don't have to worry about where you saw it last, or searching for the site in your favorites on the tool bar. It might take a while to set it up and add what you already have, but it would be worth the time.

Of the calendars listed, some of the free ones would not open (kiko) and one (spongecell) only had creating ads on it. So I went with 30 squares. Not as exciting as the others' listed attributes but will complete the assignment.

I commented on the Blogging, Avatars, and commenting page. Not sure if I was suppose to comment on the page or edit it. The directions seemed confusing.

When I compared the two, Bubbl.us was definitely easier to use; just click and type. I like Gliffy with all the different symbols to use. But it will take a lot longer to create the chart that I created in Bubbl.us. I am hoping to create an interactive site for the READ 180 teachers in my county. So this is what I'll use to design the layout.

2nd Nine Weeks Goals - Requirements

Guidelines for 2nd Nine Weeks

1. You will pick up your folder from the 4-drawer file next to the TV station.
2. Get ready for class. 
   1. 8th graders - you will be tardy after the 2nd bell.
   2. 7th graders - you will be tardy after the 2nd bell.
   3. 6th graders - Pages and Nottinghams - you will have 5 minutes after the 2nd bell.  Squires - I expect you to be in the room within 3-5 minutes after you are dismissed from your class. 
3. ALL teams are expected to use the restroom BEFORE they come to my class.
4. Complete the bell ringer and get READ 180 silent reading book.
5. Before exchanging bell ringers, make sure you have your rBook.
   1. 8th graders have the 2nd drawer.
   2. 7th graders have the 3rd drawer.
   3. 6th graders have the bottom drawer.

Goals for the 2nd Nine Weeks

• Read and pass 3 books within your lexile range.
• Create a book report of a book from the library.
• Complete 5 success zones.

This is wonderful. I was able to publish my document using Zoho's feature. I feel very excited that I could do this. Maybe I'm catching on.

The Google tools are very exciting. I can see me signing up for all of them. I choose the Google Album and Google Alerts. First the Google album will be for personal use only. Unless a student's parents/guardian has given permission, no student's picture is allowed in public domain. I like the fact that my family can go online and see these pictures. Google Alerts can be used for educational - sites, blogs, wikis, etc. This would be easy to set up and keep track of. Right now, I've only set it up for personal information - Titans Football, Sarah Palin, READ 180.

Thing #11

This Thing could possibly take 3 weeks to cover all the material available to a person. I found all the tools fairly easy to use, but difficult to request a search that had a RSS feed to it. I like the Technorati the best. It seem to have a better listing of different subjects. Syndic8 had so much on the main page, it was hard to concentrate.

I like the Cool Cat Teacher's article listing the criteria for using other people's information. I think I would like to see a list of websites that have a RSS, rather than trying to find one that fits my interest.

I'm not sure if there were unusual ones. I just looked at politics, education, and sports. I would love to find a RSS website that discusses the Titans, but there wasn't one that I found.

I like the fact that I don't have to go looking at every site to get updates. This is great. However, there are a lot of sites that don't give a RSS.

I definitely see this as a wonderful timesaver for my personal like. I'm not sure about school, except for sites that are willing to give new information about what I am teaching. That was one of the first sites I checked and it did not have a RSS.

If there is a site that is very useful for teachers, the teacher can share this information through their reader's account.
